Chapter 13 - The King Reclaims His Throne

Sable’s eyes widened in sheer terror. He opened his mouth to beg, but Dante didn’t give him the chance. A single shot echoed in the VIP lounge, and Sable slumped to the floor, dead before he hit the carpet.
Dante lowered his weapon, his chest heaving. The coup was over. The traitor was dead, and the message to his uncle was crystal clear: The King was still alive, and he was coming for his throne.
Enzo walked through the shattered doors a moment later, his shotgun resting on his shoulder. He looked at the carnage, then at Dante.
"The club is secure, Boss. The police are on their way. We need to leave."
Dante nodded, turning to Leah. She was still on her knees amid the broken glass, shaking violently as the adrenaline finally crashed out of her system. She had shot a man. She had almost lost her nephew.
Dante knelt in front of her, ignoring the glass cutting into his own knees. He gently took the revolver from her trembling hands and tossed it aside. He wrapped his large arms around her, pulling her against his chest.
"It's over," he whispered into her hair, his rough voice softening entirely. "I've got you. Matteo is safe. It's over."
Leah buried her face in his chest, sobbing into the tactical vest, letting the fear and exhaustion wash over her. Dante lifted her effortlessly into his arms, carrying her out of the blood-soaked VIP room as if she weighed nothing at all.
They walked out the back doors into the rainy alley, leaving the flashing police lights in the distance.
For the next two days, the criminal underworld of the city tore itself apart. Dante’s loyalists, fueled by his miraculous return, systematically wiped out his uncle's faction. By Sunday night, Dante’s uncle was found floating in the harbor, and Dante was entirely undisputed in his power.
Leah spent those two days in a luxury suite at St. Jude's, sitting by Matteo's bed as the best doctors in the world treated his lungs.

She hadn't seen Dante since he dropped her at the hospital doors. She thought it was over. She thought the mob boss had simply paid his debt and walked away.
Until Monday morning, when the door to the hospital room opened.
