Chapter 7 - The Morning After

|
The morning sun cast a sharp, brilliant light across the glass facade of Sterling Enterprises headquarters. For years, the building had felt like a fortress of corruption, a monument to Victoria’s greed and manipulation. Today, however, as Maya stepped out of her town car, the towering structure looked entirely different. It looked like a reclaimed home.
The lobby was buzzing with a frantic, nervous energy. Employees stood in small clusters, whispering about the dramatic arrests that had taken place the night before. When Maya walked through the revolving doors, a sudden hush fell over the expansive marble atrium. Every eye turned toward the young woman who had just overthrown the reigning tyrant of the financial world.
Maya did not lower her gaze. She walked with her head held high, her heels clicking rhythmically against the polished stone floor.
"Good morning, Ms. Sterling," the head of security said, his voice carrying a newfound tone of deep respect.
"Good morning, Marcus," Maya replied smoothly. "Has the executive floor been secured?"
"Yes, ma'am. Federal agents finished sweeping Victoria's office at dawn. It is entirely cleared for your entry."
"Thank you."
Maya stepped into the private elevator, accompanied by Leo Vance, the only corporate attorney at the firm who had remained fiercely loyal to her father’s true vision. Leo adjusted his glasses, looking at Maya with a mixture of awe and relief.
"The board is in absolute panic mode, Maya," Leo said, checking his tablet. "Three of Victoria's hand-picked directors have already submitted their resignations via email. The rest are demanding an emergency meeting by noon."
"Let them panic," Maya said, watching the floor numbers climb on the digital display. "They allowed Victoria to bleed this company dry. They are just as culpable as she is."
"Are you prepared to face them? They will try to undermine your authority. They still see you as the grieving daughter, not the rightful CEO."
"They will see exactly what I want them to see," Maya answered as the elevator doors chimed and slid open. "My father built this empire on integrity and transparency. Victoria turned it into a den of thieves. Today, we start fumigating."
May you like
Leo smiled, stepping out of the elevator behind her.
"Lead the way, Boss."
