Chapter 25 - The Purge

|

The weeks following the gala were a whirlwind of relentless, decisive action. With both Victoria and Silas Thorne locked in federal penitentiaries facing life sentences without the possibility of parole, the entire criminal network they had built immediately collapsed.

Maya did not hesitate to swing the axe. Armed with the black ledger and the unsealed federal indictments, she ruthlessly purged the company. The six complicit board members were officially terminated and handed over to the SEC for criminal prosecution. Dozens of corrupt middle managers, bought-off politicians, and crooked accountants were exposed and removed from their positions.

The media dubbed it "The Sterling Cleansing."

Maya sat at the head of the boardroom table, surrounded by a completely new board of directors. She had hand-picked them herself—a diverse group of fierce, ethical innovators, legal experts, and loyalists who truly believed in her father’s original vision. Leo sat to her right, having been promoted to Chief Operating Officer.

"The final numbers for the quarter are in, Ms. Sterling," Leo said, projecting a graph onto the massive glass wall. "Public trust in the company is at an all-time high. The restitution fund has successfully reimbursed all eighty-four defrauded investors. And, despite the massive structural overhaul, our stock price has surged by twenty-two percent. We are more profitable now than we have been in a decade."

The new board members broke into a round of genuine, enthusiastic applause.

Maya looked at the green line on the graph soaring upward. She thought of all the sleepless nights, the terror of Victoria’s reign, and the seemingly insurmountable odds she had faced just a few months ago.

"Thank you, Leo," Maya said, a warm, genuine smile lighting up her face. "But this is just the beginning. We have proven that a corporation can be immensely successful without sacrificing its soul. Sterling Enterprises will no longer just be a name associated with wealth. It will be a name synonymous with absolute integrity."

Maya closed her briefing folder, the sound echoing cleanly in the bright, sunlit room.

"Now, let's get back to work."
