Chapter 15 - The Mole Exposed

Detective Elena Ward drew her service weapon, stepping directly into my path as the auditorium descended into complete pandemonium.
"Ms. Carter! Stand down!" Ward barked, her hand shaking on the grip of her pistol. "This is an active crime scene! You need to step back into the hallway!"
"Put the gun away, Elena," a heavy, commanding voice echoed from the main entrance of the auditorium.
A dozen state troopers clad in dark blue tactical gear flooded through the double doors, weapons raised and pointed directly at Ward and Victor Mercer. Leading them was Special Agent David Miller from the FBI Federal Fraud and Public Corruption Task Force.
"Detective Elena Ward," Agent Miller announced through a megaphone. "You are under arrest for conspiracy to commit murder, obstruction of justice, and receiving bribes from Mercer Records."
Ward’s eyes went wide with panic. She looked at Victor Mercer, then at the troopers surrounding her. Seeing no escape, she slowly dropped her pistol onto the carpet and raised her hands in the air.
Rachel stepped out from behind the stage curtains, holding a thick binder of financial documents. She walked straight up to Agent Miller and handed them over.
"These are the off-shore accounts, the wire transfers, and the original forged life insurance policies," Rachel said, her voice steady and clear. "My father and Logan Vance acted together."

Victor Mercer stared at his daughter in utter disbelief, his face twisted in betrayal. "Rachel?! What have you done?!"
"I saved my own life, Dad," Rachel said quietly, turning her back on him. "Something you were more than willing to trade for a music catalog."
