Chapter 14 - The Execution

|

Dario’s eyes darted to Wren, realization hitting him like a physical blow.

"You..." Dario choked out, his voice cracking. "Who the hell are you?"

Wren walked slowly toward him, stopping inches from his chair. She reached down, picking up a single shard of shattered crystal champagne flute from the floor—the exact same glass she had gathered on her knees three hours ago.

She held the shard up to the light, watching the cold spark reflect in her dark eyes.

"Eleven pieces," Wren said softly, her voice carrying across the silent ballroom. "I counted them while you laughed. I counted them while your friends called me a rat in a trash heap."

She stepped closer, placing the cold tip of the glass shard against Dario’s neck, right over his pulsating jugular vein.

"I let you humiliate me because I wanted to stay hidden," Wren whispered into his ear. "But my shadow has always been longer than yours, Dario."

Dario sobbed, closing his eyes in sheer terror. "Please... mercy..."

Wren looked at Damian.

Damian didn't hesitate. He raised his heavy pistol and pulled the trigger once.

BANG.

Dario’s body went limp in the chair. The gunshot echoed through the hall, sealing the absolute authority of the Ricci family over the East Coast once and for all.

The remaining bosses bowed their heads in complete, terrifying submission. Nobody spoke. Nobody dared to breathe.
