Chapter 9 - The Relocation

|
I found Emma in the main kitchen, drinking a glass of water. She looked peaceful, the haunting shadows under her eyes finally beginning to fade.
"Pack whatever you want to bring with you," I said, walking into the room. "We are leaving in twenty minutes."
Emma froze, the glass halfway to her mouth. "Leaving? To where?"
"I have a private estate upstate. It’s highly secured and completely off the grid," I explained, keeping my tone strictly professional to mask the urgency. "Kolov escalated his attacks on my businesses tonight. The city is no longer safe for you."
"But my mother," Emma panicked, her hands trembling as she set the glass down. "She's at the hospital. I can't leave her behind in the city if these men are hunting us."
"Your mother and your brother are already en route to the estate in a private, heavily guarded medical transport," I assured her. "I have relocated an entire medical team to care for her there. They will be waiting for you when we arrive."
Emma stared at me, completely overwhelmed by the sheer scale of the operation I was executing simply to protect her bloodline.
"Dominic, you can't uproot your entire life for me," she whispered, shaking her head. "I am a liability to you. If I just leave, if I disappear, Kolov will stop bothering you."
"Kolov is a rabid dog," I said, closing the distance between us. I reached out, my hands gently gripping her shoulders. "He doesn't stop because you run. He stops when he is put down. You are not a liability, Emma. You are the reason I am going to end him."

She looked up at me, her dark eyes searching mine. She didn't find a mob boss looking for leverage. She found a man who would burn the world down to keep her breathing.
"Okay," she breathed, surrendering to the protection I offered. "I'll pack."
