"I want to see the security footage," Emily demanded later that evening, her voice steady despite the lingering tremor in her limbs.
The family had gathered in the expansive library. Victoria, sipping a glass of red wine, let out a soft, mocking laugh. "By all means, go ahead. Let's look at the tapes."
Victoria’s confidence was suffocating. She knew the layout of the house better than anyone. The Reynolds mansion was heavily surveilled—hallways, entryways, the courtyard—but it was common knowledge among the staff that the specific camera overlooking the grand staircase had suffered a hardware malfunction earlier that week.
Or so Victoria thought.
Because a pregnant woman had nearly suffered a fatal accident, Charles had been forced to call a private investigator to file an official report. In high-society circles, documentation was necessary to avoid insurance scandals and media leaks.
