Chapter 9 - The Glasshouse Gathering|

Fay watched in stunned silence as Vincent unlocked the heavy kitchen door with a soft click.
"Stay here," Vincent said without turning around. "I will have the house physician meet you in my private study in twenty minutes."
"Vincent, wait," Fay called out, using his first name for the first time.
Vincent stopped in the doorway, pausing to look back over his tailored shoulder. "Yes?"
"What are you going to do to him?" she asked, her voice trembling slightly.
Vincent stared at her for a long, silent moment. "I am going to remind Capo Donovan of the consequences of touching things that do not belong to him."
Without another word, he stepped into the dark corridor, his hard soles clicking against the floor until the sound faded completely into the night.
Twenty minutes later, a middle-aged woman in a sleek gray suit approached the kitchen doors. Dr. Aris, the family's private physician, ushered Fay up the private service elevator directly to Vincent's penthouse suite—a floor of the estate she had never been allowed to step foot on.
The study was magnificent, lined with floor-to-ceiling bookshelves, warm leather furniture, and a massive mahogany desk overlooking the estate's sprawling grounds.
Dr. Aris examined Fay's jaw with practiced efficiency, applying a specialized cooling salve and prescribing high-strength anti-inflammatory medication.
"You're very lucky, dear," Dr. Aris remarked quietly as she packed her medical bag. "Usually, when staff members cross paths with capos like Donovan, management turns a blind eye."

"Why isn't Vincent turning a blind eye?" Fay asked softly.
Dr. Aris stopped, looking at Fay with a strange, knowing expression. "Because Vincent Cross hasn't looked at a woman the way he looked at you tonight in three years."
