Chapter 11 - The Firefight

|

The subterranean garage erupted into a deafening, apocalyptic warzone.

Silas’s men didn't hesitate. They opened fire with overwhelming, synchronized brutality, catching Cole’s mercenaries completely off guard. The air filled with the chaotic roar of automatic gunfire, shattering windshields and sparking violently against concrete pillars.

“Move!” Dante roared over the noise, grabbing Elena’s arm and dragging her behind the heavy steel engine block of one of the armored vans.

Raymond Cole screamed orders at his men, desperately trying to return fire, but they were pinned down. The tactical superiority of Dante’s elite guard was undeniable.

Arthur Whitaker, a man accustomed to giving orders from comfortable boardrooms, panicked entirely. He ducked behind a luxury sedan, covering his ears as bullets chewed through the metal frame inches from his head.

“Boss! We have the perimeter!” Silas shouted, sliding into cover beside Dante, his assault rifle smoking. “The police have blockaded the street above. We have them trapped in a kill box.”

“Leave Cole to the men,” Dante ordered, his eyes dark with lethal intent. “I want Arthur Whitaker alive. He is mine.”

Dante leaned around the van, laying down a burst of suppressing fire before moving aggressively from cover to cover. He was a predator hunting his prey, moving relentlessly toward the luxury sedan where Elena’s father was cowering.

Elena watched him move, her heart hammering a frantic rhythm. She raised her 9mm, providing cover fire for her husband, dropping a mercenary who had tried to flank Dante’s position.

Raymond Cole realized the battle was lost. He abandoned his men, sprinting toward a side exit door leading to the maintenance tunnels.

“Cole is running!” Silas yelled, aiming his weapon.

“Let him run into the trap,” Dante replied coldly. “My men have the tunnels sealed.”

Dante reached the sedan. He didn't bother shooting. He reached over the hood, grabbed Arthur by the collar of his expensive cashmere coat, and hauled the older man brutally to his feet.

Arthur screamed, flailing wildly as Dante dragged him out into the open, completely ignoring the dying firefight around them.

“Call off your men, Arthur,” Dante commanded, pressing the barrel of his pistol directly against Arthur’s temple. “Or I end your miserable life right here.”
