By sunrise, the west wing of the Vale mansion had been converted into a high-tech, private ICU suite. A team of elite, fully vetted doctors and nurses from Johns Hopkins were flown in via private jet to oversee Tyler’s care around the clock.
Tyler and Noah hit it off instantly.
Four-year-old Noah brought his favorite red blocks into Tyler’s room, sitting on the edge of his bed, quietly handing him toys while Tyler showed him comic books.
For the first time in years, laughter echoed through the gloomy hallways of the Lake Forest estate.
In the basement holding facility, Dominic stood behind the steel interrogation door, watching through the one-way glass as his chief of security finished questioning Dr. Julian.
I walked down the concrete steps, bringing Dominic a fresh cup of black coffee.
“Did he give up Vincent?” I asked softly.
“He gave up everything,” Dominic said, taking the coffee. “Vincent has secured fifty heavily armed mercenaries from an Eastern European syndicate. They know their time is up. They are planning a full-scale assault on this estate tonight before my captains can mobilize the city forces.”
I felt a cold chill run down my spine. “A full-scale assault? On this house?”
“They think I’m cornered here,” Dominic said, a dark, terrifying smile curling the edges of his lips. “They think bringing the fight to my front door gives them the advantage.”

He turned to face me, his gray eyes burning with an intense, intoxicating heat.
“They don't realize that this house isn't a mansion, Clara,” Dominic murmured, reaching out to cup the back of my neck. “It’s a kill box. And tonight, I wipe Vincent’s line from the face of this earth.”
