Chapter 10 - The King Returns

I hit the heavy doors of the north wing, bursting out into the main corridor just as a deafening roar echoed through the grand foyer below.
Tires screeched on the gravel driveway outside, followed by the heavy thud of doors being kicked open.
Dominic Vale walked into the house like an impending hurricane.
Behind him flooded a dozen men in tactical gear, carrying automatic weapons. His face was thunderous, his eyes sweeping the foyer until they landed on me standing at the top of the balcony, bleeding from a small glass cut on my arm.
“Clara!” Dominic’s voice boomed across the marble.
“Julian!” I screamed, pointing toward the north wing. “He’s armed! He killed Lydia!”
Dominic didn't hesitate for a single second. He pulled a heavy black handgun from his shoulder holster, racking the slide with a lethal, mechanical click.
“Secure my son!” Dominic roared to his chief of security. “Take the north wing alive!”
Julian burst out of the north wing doors behind me, holding his gun, attempting to grab me as a hostage.
Before Julian’s fingers could touch my sweater, Dominic sprinted up the grand staircase with terrifying speed, seized Julian by the throat, and slammed the doctor’s body into the stone wall with enough force to shatter the plaster.
The doctor’s gun clattered to the floor, rolling down the stairs.
“You touched my family,” Dominic snarled, his voice dropping into a guttural, terrifying register. His grip tightened around Julian’s throat until the doctor’s eyes rolled back. “You poisoned my wife. You poisoned my son.”
“Dominic... wait!” I yelled, running down the balcony to his side. “Don't kill him yet! He’s working with Vincent!”

Dominic paused, his gray eyes burning with pure, unadulterated vengeance. He looked at me, then down at the gasping, suffocating traitor in his grip.
“You’re right,” Dominic growled, slamming Julian down onto the hard floor. “He dies slowly.”
