Chapter 10: The Arrival

Spring burst into the city with vibrant greens and blooming cherry blossoms.

The delivery room was quiet, bathed in soft, dim lighting. There was no chaos, no demanding matriarch pacing the halls and barking orders at the medical staff.

There was only Elena, exhausted but radiant, and Julian, who hadn't let go of her hand for twelve hours.

With one final, fierce push, the room was filled with the sharp, beautiful cry of new life.

"It's a girl," the doctor smiled, gently placing the swaddled infant onto Elena’s chest.

Elena collapsed back against the pillows, tears streaming down her face as she looked down at the tiny, perfect face of her daughter. The baby had a shock of dark hair and bright, observant eyes.

Julian leaned over them, kissing Elena’s forehead, his tears dropping onto the hospital blankets.

"She's perfect," Julian whispered, gently stroking the baby’s impossibly small cheek. "She's so perfect."

"What is her name?" the nurse asked softly, holding a clipboard.

In the old Vance tradition, girls were named after grandmothers and great-aunts to preserve the legacy.

Elena looked at Julian. They had chosen this name months ago.

"Aurora," Elena said clearly. "Her name is Aurora."

Dawn. The beginning of a new day.

As they sat in the quiet hospital room, holding their daughter, the cycle of generational trauma was officially, irrevocably dead. Aurora would never know the cold, calculating cruelty of the mansion’s past. She would only know the warmth, the light, and the unconditional love of the home her parents had fought so hard to build.
