Chapter 15 - Reborn from the Ashes

Six months later, the spring sun shone brightly over the grand reopening of Mercer Development—officially renamed Vance Global Enterprises.

The transformation was absolute.

The corporate structure had been completely scrubbed clean of Daniel’s legacy. Under my direct leadership, the company had logged its most profitable quarter in a decade, securing major municipal contracts and launching a new green-energy initiative that my grandfather had dreamed about years ago.

I stood on the main stage of the grand hotel ballroom downtown, addressing five hundred shareholders, board members, and international journalists.

I wore an emerald green gown, my grandfather’s gold signet ring sparkling on my right hand.

“Success isn't about avoiding betrayal,” I declared into the microphone, my voice resounding with quiet authority. “It is about building a foundation so strong, so unyielding, that when the storms come, the house doesn't fall. It stands.”

The crowd erupted into thunderous applause, standing up from their tables to honor the woman who had turned a public disaster into an unprecedented corporate victory.

From the side of the stage, Evelyn Shaw raised her glass toward me, winking knowingly.

As the applause slowly died down, I stepped off the stage and entered the private VIP lounge behind the curtain to catch my breath.

Sitting on the velvet sofa was a large, polished black wooden box resting on the coffee table.

I stopped, frowning. “Evelyn? Is this a gift from the board?”

Evelyn walked into the lounge, looking equally confused. “No... I didn't order anything to be brought back here. Security cleared the room ten minutes ago.”
