Chapter 26 - The Vow Renewed|

The weeks that followed were remarkably peaceful. With Lorenzo neutralized and the rival families thoroughly intimidated by Alessandro's display of tactical brilliance, a quiet settled over the criminal underworld. The Moretti empire continued its transition into legitimate enterprises, shedding the blood-soaked skin of its past.
One evening, Alessandro invited me into his study. He poured us both a glass of expensive red wine and gestured for me to sit on the leather sofa.
"I have been thinking," he began, pacing slowly in front of the fireplace. "About the watch. About the black box."
I tensed slightly. "Is there another threat?"
"No," he assured me quickly, stopping and kneeling in front of me. He took my free hand in his. "It made me realize how easily this life can be disrupted. How quickly the past can try to steal our future."
He reached into the pocket of his jacket and pulled out a small, velvet box. It wasn't black, but a deep, vibrant crimson. He opened it to reveal a stunning diamond ring, far more extravagant than my original engagement ring.
"Alessandro," I breathed, my eyes widening.
"When we married, our world was chaotic. It was an alliance, a necessity, a desperate grasp for stability," he said, his voice thick with emotion. "But today, it is none of those things. Today, I want to marry you because you are the center of my universe. Because you are the mother of my child, the protector of my soul, and the only woman I will ever love."
Tears pricked my eyes as I looked at the man kneeling before me. The ruthless mafia boss was completely stripped away, leaving only a devoted, vulnerable husband.
