Chapter 25 - Return to the Glass Tower|

Two days later, we returned to Manhattan. The city was exactly as we had left it—loud, bright, and endlessly moving. As our armored SUV pulled up to the underground garage of our penthouse building, the transition back to normalcy felt almost surreal.

A new security team was waiting for us, personally vetted by Marco from his hospital bed. They were younger, highly trained, and moved with a quiet efficiency that made me feel instantly secure.

We rode the elevator up to the penthouse. The doors slid open to reveal a space completely transformed. The subtle damage from the lockdown had been repaired, the floors polished to a mirror shine, and massive bouquets of white roses were placed on every surface.

"Welcome home," Alessandro said, holding my hand as we walked into the grand living room.

Emma ran ahead, dropping her backpack and immediately searching for her toys. "I missed my room," she announced, disappearing down the hallway.

I walked over to the floor-to-ceiling windows, looking out over the sprawling grid of the city. The sun was shining brightly, reflecting off the glass towers, a sharp contrast to the dark, rainy night when this nightmare had begun.

Alessandro came up behind me, wrapping his arms around my waist and resting his chin on my shoulder.

"You were so brave," he whispered into my ear, his breath warm against my skin. "When I saw you holding that gun, standing between Lorenzo and Emma... I realized I had severely underestimated you."

I leaned back into his embrace, sighing softly. "I didn't feel brave. I was terrified."

"Courage isn't the absence of fear," he quoted softly. "It's taking action despite it. You saved us. You kept the darkness from claiming my soul in that basement."

"I just wanted our life back," I said, turning in his arms to look up at him. "The life we celebrated at the restaurant."

"And you have it," he promised, his eyes filled with profound love. "Forever."
