Chapter 8: The Mother's Fall

Chapter 8: The Mother's Fall
A collective gasp broke around the long table. The sound of shattered illusions.
Olivia’s father, Paul, took one heavy, threatening step forward, his fists balled at his sides.
“You forged her signature? You went behind her back with her own medical data?”
Jason raised both hands, backing away slightly, playing the terrified victim.
“I was trying to protect my family’s assets! You don't understand the legal exposure!”
Olivia stared at him, feeling the baby kick violently inside her.
“From your wife?” she asked, her voice eerily calm.
Jason had no answer. He just stared at the floor.
Dr. Ellis placed a final, damning document on the table.
“Those secondary billing records led my office to verify a joint offshore payment account, used to cover the medical expenses quietly.”
Margaret frowned, genuine confusion finally breaking her cold, calculated mask. She controlled the family money.
“What payment account? Jason has no offshore accounts I don't sign off on.”
Dr. Ellis didn't blink.
“He has one. And it is used to send fifty thousand dollars every single month to Vanessa Hale.”
The name landed in the room like a dropped grenade.
Vanessa.
The monitor in Olivia's hand crackled one last time, delivering the final, fatal blow to Jason's charade.
Vanessa’s recorded voice echoed clearly: “I am tired of hiding. When do I get my life back?”
Jason’s voice answered: “After the baby is born, I’ll leak the therapy records to make Olivia look unstable. Mom already thinks the baby isn’t mine. It won’t take much. She’ll push Olivia out of the house herself, and we keep full custody.”
Margaret Bennett’s knees gave out. She sank slowly, heavily into her chair.

The cruel, calculated weapon she had swung at Olivia for the last eight months hadn't been her own maternal pride.
It had been a weapon handed to her by her own son, meant to destroy an innocent woman.
