Chapter 13 - The Visitor at the Gate

Three months passed.
Under my leadership, Vance Enterprises didn't just recover—it exploded. We acquired seven major rival firms, expanded our global holdings, and completely wiped Kensington Holdings off the corporate map. Julian’s company went bankrupt in less than forty-eight hours, its name erased from the business world forever.
I moved out of the Greenwich house and purchased a historic, sprawling estate in the countryside of Bedford, New York, surrounding myself with high-tech security and loyal staff handpicked by Sal.
One rainy afternoon, David arrived at the main gate.
My head of security alerted me via the intercom, and I immediately granted him entry. David walked into my private study, looking sharp in a clean suit, holding his leather hat in his hands nervously.
"Sit down, David," I said warmly, gesturing to the armchair across from my desk.
David sat awkwardly on the edge of the seat. "Thank you for seeing me, Miss Vance. Or... Chairwoman Vance."
"You don't need to call me that, David," I smiled gently, pouring him a cup of tea. "How is your sister doing?"
"She's completely healthy now, ma'am," David said, his eyes shining with gratitude. "The medical team you assigned to her said she'll make a full recovery."
"I'm glad to hear that," I replied. "Now, tell me why you're here today."
David pulled a thick, wax-sealed envelope from his coat pocket and placed it on my desk.
"Julian’s sentencing trial was finalized yesterday," David reported softly. "He received thirty-five years in federal prison without parole. Maya Lawson received twelve years for her role in the extortion and conspiracy."

I nodded slowly, taking the envelope. "And what is this?"
"Before Julian was transported to the maximum-security facility in Colorado," David explained, "he asked me to give you this letter. He swore it contained something your father left behind before he died."
