Chapter 15 - The Paper Trail of Blood

|

For several seconds, nobody spoke. The sheer evil of Ethan’s plan was staggering. He had intended to break me, lock me away, steal my six-hundred-million-dollar inheritance, and if I resisted, murder me and collect a twenty-million-dollar insurance payout on top of it.

Vincent stood up slowly. He didn't shout. He didn't throw anything. He simply straightened his tie, unbuttoned his suit jacket, and looked at Paul.

“Paul,” Vincent said softly.

“Yes, Boss?”

“Call the Police Commissioner. Tell him I want the District Attorney to upgrade the charges against Ethan Hayes and Vanessa Vance immediately.”

“To what?” Paul asked, opening his phone.

“Attempted pre-meditated murder, felony fraud, corporate espionage, and grand larceny,” Vincent replied, his eyes burning with a dark, terrifying light. “And tell the Commissioner that if Ethan Hayes is granted bail under any circumstances... I will consider it an act of hostility from the city.”

“Understood,” Paul said, stepping out into the hallway to make the call.

Rachel turned back to me, her expression professional and focused. “With this evidence, Lena, the family court will grant an immediate, absolute divorce on grounds of extreme cruelty and criminal fraud. He will not receive a single cent of marital property, and his rights as a father to Sofia will be permanently terminated.”

“I don't just want a divorce, Rachel,” I said, looking up at my attorney with a cold, unwavering focus. “I want him completely destroyed. I want his reputation, his career, his assets, and his freedom wiped off the face of the earth.”

Rachel allowed a small, ruthless smile to touch her lips. “That, Ms. Moretti, is going to be my absolute pleasure.”

Vincent walked over to my side, placing his hand over mine. “You sound like a Moretti now, sweetheart.”

“I am a Moretti,” I answered, looking my father straight in the eyes. “And it’s time Ethan learned what that means.”
