Chapter 24

|

The revelation of General Thorne’s absolute betrayal hung heavy in the air of the safe house. Elena paced the concrete floor, her mind operating purely on tactical calculus. She was no longer a grieving widow; she was an apex predator hunting the man who had destroyed her family.

"Thorne commands unparalleled military resources," Jax warned, cleaning his sidearm with methodical precision. "If we try to take this ledger to the FBI or the DOJ, Thorne will intercept the evidence before it ever reaches a judge’s desk. He owns the oversight committees."

"We don't go to the authorities," Elena decided, stopping her pacing. "We expose him publicly. We broadcast the entire contents of this hard drive to every major news network, foreign embassy, and international oversight tribunal simultaneously. We make it impossible to cover up."

"I can build a distribution worm to execute a global broadcast," Chloe said, tapping rapidly on her keyboard. "But the files on this drive are protected by a localized, military-grade biometric firewall. I can see the directory names, but to actually open the detailed financial receipts and the video evidence of Thorne's treason, we need a direct decryption key."

"Where is the key?" Elena asked.

"It's not digital. It's a physical, rolling-code decryption algorithm," Chloe explained, pointing to a warning prompt on her screen. "The military only uses these specific physical keys on their secure, off-the-grid mainframes."

"Thorne has an off-the-grid compound in the Catskills," Jax interjected. "He uses it to host private defense contractors and illegal auctions. It’s his personal fortress. If the decryption key exists, it’s locked in his private server room there."

"Then we are going to the Catskills," Elena stated with absolute finality.

"Mom, attacking a four-star general's fortified compound is practically suicide," Chloe cautioned, though she didn't look away from the screen. "They will have heavy artillery, private mercenaries, and automated defenses."

"They have an army, yes," Elena acknowledged, placing a reassuring hand on her daughter's shoulder. "But they don't have nothing left to lose. We do. Chloe, I need you to map the compound's security grid. Jax, I need every explosive and smoke grenade you have in that bag."

"You want to go in loud?" Jax grinned, a feral, dangerous smile spreading across his scarred face.

"No," Elena said coldly. "We go in silent. But we make sure they hear us when we leave."
