Chapter 14 - A New Horizon|

Six months later.

The summer sun shone warmly over a beautiful, historic Victorian house sitting on a half-acre lot near the coast of Newport. The wraparound porch overlooked a green lawn filled with hydrangeas and sea breeze.

I stood on the porch, holding a mug of warm coffee, watching Lily run across the grass with a golden retriever puppy we had adopted three weeks ago.

She wasn't limping anymore.

Thanks to the restored trust funds, Lily had completed a state-of-the-art physical therapy program in Boston over the spring. She could run, jump, and dance without a single trace of pain.

The sound of car tires crunching on the gravel driveway made me turn my head.

A sleek black sedan pulled up. Graham stepped out, wearing a casual navy sweater and jeans—a rare break from his usual tailored suits. He held a small pink wrapped box in his hand.

“Hey,” he smiled, walking up the wooden steps of the porch.

“Hey yourself,” I smiled back, feeling that familiar, warm flutter in my chest that had been growing over the last few months. “What’s that?”

“A little celebration gift for Lily,” Graham said, nodding toward my daughter, who was currently chasing the puppy around an oak tree. “Her final physical therapy evaluation results came through today. Her doctor officially cleared her for soccer.”

I let out a breathless laugh, tears of pure happiness pricking my eyes. “Soccer? She’s been begging me for months!”

“I know,” Graham murmured, stepping closer to me. He reached out, his thumb gently catching a stray tear on my cheek. “You built a wonderful life here, Claire.”

I looked at the house, the sunlit yard, and my happy, healthy daughter.

“We built it,” I corrected softly, looking up into his eyes. “We couldn't have done it without you, Graham.”
