Chapter 3 – “The Evidence That Could Destroy Them All”

The rain came back three days later.
It fell over the Castillo estate exactly the way it had on the night Elena disappeared.
A cold, relentless storm.
The kind that turned the world outside into a blur of shadows.
Alejandro stood in front of the massive windows of his office, staring into the darkness.
Three years ago, rain had taken his wife away.
Tonight, it felt like the storm had returned to remind him.
Only this time…
He was ready.
Behind him, dozens of documents covered the conference table.
Bank records.
Security files.
Property transfers.
Old photographs.
Every piece of evidence they had recovered from Vivian’s hidden room.
Every lie she had carefully built.
Every secret she had buried.
Slowly, Alejandro picked up one photograph.
It showed Elena.
Three years younger.
Standing beside him at a charity event.
She was smiling.
A real smile.
A smile that reached her eyes.
He remembered that night.
She had spent hours choosing her dress.
She had complained that she hated expensive parties.
She had told him:
“Everyone here looks like they’re pretending.”
And he had laughed.
Because she was right.
The entire world around them was filled with people wearing masks.
But Elena never did.
That was what made her different.
That was what made Vivian hate her.
A knock interrupted his thoughts.
“Come in.”
His lawyer, Daniel Reyes, entered carrying another folder.
Daniel looked exhausted.
That alone told Alejandro the news was serious.
“What did you find?”
Daniel placed the folder down.
“Something worse than we expected.”
Alejandro’s expression hardened.
“Tell me.”
Daniel opened the file.
“Vivian wasn’t acting alone.”
Silence.
Alejandro slowly looked up.
“Who?”
Daniel hesitated.
That hesitation angered him more than the answer.
“Daniel.”
The lawyer took a breath.
“The person who helped Vivian hide Elena’s disappearance was someone inside Castillo International.”
Alejandro froze.
His company.
His own people.
“Who?”
Daniel pushed a document across the table.
Alejandro looked down.
And his face changed.
The signature at the bottom belonged to someone he trusted.
Someone who had worked beside him for eight years.
Someone who had stood next to him during the darkest days of his company.
“Marcus Vale.”
The name left Alejandro’s mouth like poison.
Marcus Vale.
Chief financial officer of Castillo International.
A man Alejandro considered family.
They had built the company together.
When Alejandro was young and inexperienced, Marcus had guided him.
When investors doubted him, Marcus defended him.
When the company almost collapsed, Marcus stayed.
Or at least…
That was what Alejandro believed.
“He helped her transfer money,” Daniel explained.
“How much?”
Daniel looked down.
“Nearly twenty million dollars.”
Alejandro’s jaw tightened.
“Twenty million.”
“Yes.”
“For what?”
Daniel opened another file.
“Payments.”
“To whom?”
“That’s the problem.”
Daniel looked serious.
“The recipients are hidden through multiple offshore accounts.”
Alejandro stared at the papers.
Someone had planned this carefully.
Not emotionally.
Not impulsively.
This was organized.
Professional.
A cold operation.
A disappearance.
Not an accident.
“Find him.”
Daniel nodded.
“We already tried.”
“And?”
“He’s gone.”
Alejandro’s eyes narrowed.
“When?”
“The same day Elena was found.”
A terrifying silence filled the room.
He had been watching.
Waiting.
Meanwhile, Elena sat alone in the old garden.
The place had once been her favorite part of the mansion.
Before.
Before Vivian.
Before fear.
She remembered sitting there with Alejandro on summer evenings.
They would drink coffee.
Talk about nothing.
Dream about the future.
She used to believe this house was a symbol of everything they had built.
Now she realized it had also been a prison.
“Cold?”
She turned.
Alejandro stood behind her with a blanket.
She smiled softly.
“You always did that.”
“What?”
“Appeared when I needed you.”
He placed the blanket around her shoulders.
“I should have appeared sooner.”
The sadness in his voice hurt her.
“Alejandro.”
“No.”
He sat beside her.
“I need to say this.”
She became quiet.
“I failed you.”
“You didn’t.”
“I promised to protect you.”
“You loved me.”
“That wasn’t enough.”
Elena looked at him.
“Yes, it was.”
He shook his head.
“No.”
She reached for his hand.
“Then listen to me.”
He looked at her.
“For three years, I survived because I believed one thing.”
“What?”
“That somewhere in the world, you were still looking for me.”
His eyes filled.
“You knew?”
“I knew.”
A tear fell.
“And that was the only thing Vivian couldn’t take from me.”
That night, they discovered the hidden recording.
Not the one from Vivian’s room.
A different one.
One that had been deliberately hidden.
The footage was from three years earlier.
The day Elena disappeared.
Alejandro watched silently as the screen showed the mansion entrance.
Elena walking outside.
Then Vivian appeared.
They spoke.
But there was no audio.
Then something unexpected happened.
A black car arrived.
Someone stepped out.
A man.
Alejandro leaned closer.
The image was blurry.
But the body shape was familiar.
Then the person turned.
And Alejandro stopped breathing.
Because the face was visible.
His own father’s former business partner.
A man who had died two years earlier.
“Impossible.”
Daniel stared.
“That’s what we thought.”
Alejandro looked confused.
“How?”
The lawyer pointed.
“Because the person in the video isn’t him.”
“What?”
“He had a brother.”
Alejandro frowned.
“A twin.”
The room went silent.
“A twin who disappeared twenty years ago.”
Elena whispered:
“Why would he be involved?”
Nobody answered.
Because they all knew.
The answer would not be simple.
The next morning, Alejandro confronted Vivian again.
This time, he brought Elena.
Vivian looked surprised.
“You brought her?”
Alejandro smiled coldly.
“Yes.”
“Why?”
“Because she deserves to hear the truth.”
Elena stood beside him.
For the first time in three years…
She was not standing below Vivian.
Not kneeling.
Not afraid.
Standing.
Vivian noticed.
And something in her expression changed.
“You think this changes anything?”
Elena looked at her.
“You lost.”
Vivian laughed.
“You think I lost?”
She stepped closer.
“You have no idea what’s coming.”
Alejandro moved forward.
“Threatening my wife again?”
Vivian smiled.
“No.”
She looked at Elena.
“Warning her.”
Elena’s face hardened.
“About what?”
Vivian’s smile disappeared.
“About the man you married.”

Alejandro frowned.
“What?”
Vivian looked at him.
“You still don’t know, do you?”
“Know what?”
She laughed.
“You think Elena was the only one with secrets?”
The room went quiet.
Alejandro felt something change.
“Explain.”
Vivian walked closer.
“Ask your wife why her father was investigating your family before he disappeared.”
Elena froze.
Alejandro noticed.
“Elena?”
She looked away.
And that was enough.
Again.
A secret.
Another hidden truth.
“You knew?”
Alejandro asked quietly.
Elena whispered:
“Not everything.”
“How much?”
She closed her eyes.
“My father believed someone in your family was responsible for what happened to his company.”
Alejandro stepped back.
“What?”
“My father’s company collapsed because of a business deal with Castillo Holdings.”
Silence.
“You never told me?”
“I was afraid.”
“Afraid of what?”
“That you would think I married you for revenge.”
Alejandro stared at her.
For a moment, he said nothing.
Then he walked away.
Not because he hated her.
Because he was hurt.
Not by the truth.
By the fact that she carried it alone.
That night, Alejandro went through old family records.
And he found something.
Something nobody had noticed.
Twenty years ago.
A business war.
A company destroyed.
A missing man.
And a name.
The same name appearing in every document.
The same name connected to Vivian.
Marcus.
The missing CFO.
The dead businessman’s secret brother.
And Elena’s father.
They were all connected.
A web that had been created long before Alejandro and Elena ever met.
Then his phone rang.
Unknown number.
He answered.
No one spoke at first.
Only breathing.
Then a voice.
“You should have left the past buried.”
Alejandro stood.
“Who is this?”
A laugh.
“You found Elena.”
Silence.
“You found Vivian.”
Another pause.
“But you haven’t found the person who started everything.”
Alejandro tightened his grip on the phone.
“Where are you?”
The voice ignored him.
“You spent three years searching for your wife.”
A cold whisper.
“Now spend the rest of your life searching for the truth.”
The call ended.
Alejandro stared at the phone.
Then he looked at Elena.
Because suddenly he understood.
Vivian had not been the beginning.
She had only been a piece.
A weapon.
Someone else had been moving the pieces from the shadows.
And whoever that person was…
They had just declared war on the Castillo family.
The next morning, a package arrived at the mansion.
No sender.
No address.
Only one message written on the top:
“For Alejandro Castillo. The truth about your wife’s disappearance.”
Inside was a single photograph.
A photograph that changed everything.
Because in the picture…
Elena was not alone the night she vanished.
She was standing beside someone Alejandro trusted more than anyone.
Someone who had spent three years pretending to help him find her.
May you like
And beneath the photograph was one sentence:
“Ask your best friend why he let her disappear.”
