Chapter 35

|

Later that night, after all the guests had departed and the stars had filled the vast, unpolluted Tennessee night sky like millions of scattered diamonds, Amy and I walked down to the edge of our private pond.

The water was smooth as glass, reflecting the silver light of the full moon perfectly. The crickets were singing their soft, rhythmic lullaby, and a cool night breeze rustled through the oak leaves above us.

Frederick was fast asleep in his room upstairs, tucked under soft blankets, guarded by our state-of-the-art home security, the watchful eyes of my loyal team, and, more importantly, surrounded by absolute, unconditional love.

Amy leaned back against my chest, and I wrapped both arms around her waist, pulling her close, resting my chin gently on her shoulder.

"What are you thinking about, Connor?" she whispered, covering my hands with hers, her touch incredibly warm against the cool night air.

"I was thinking about the day I walked into that kitchen all those years ago," I murmured softly into her ear. "I was thinking about how close I came to losing everything—and how profoundly grateful I am that I walked out that back door with you."

Amy turned in my arms, reaching up to gently cup my face in her hands. Her eyes were deep, clear, and filled with an eternal, unshakable devotion that grounded me completely.

"You didn't just walk out, Connor," she whispered, kissing my lips softly, a promise of forever. "You saved my life. You honored your father's memory. And you gave our son a future where he will only ever know love, truth, and absolute peace."

I held her close, pressing her against my heart, listening to the steady, rhythmic beat that belonged entirely to her, to our child, and to the beautiful life we had fought so desperately to build.

The secrets of the past had all been dragged into the light and burned away. The monsters who tried to break us had been completely conquered. The stolen legacy of my family had been reclaimed, reshaped, and rebuilt into something incredibly holy and beautiful.

As we stood together beneath the moonlit sky, wrapped in the warmth of a love that had survived the absolute deepest darkness, I knew with absolute certainty that no matter what storms the world might bring to our gates, our home would stand forever—unbroken, fiercely protected, and entirely free.
