Chapter 13 - The Arrest

The boardroom erupted into chaos. Executive members shouted, pushing their chairs away from Julian as if he were radioactive.
"Attempted murder?!" Julian shrieked, his pristine composure completely disintegrating as an officer grabbed his arms and forced them behind his back. "I had nothing to do with the stairs! That was all her! I just forged the proxy! I'm a lawyer, not a killer!"
He sold her out in less than five seconds.
Vanessa fought like a feral cat. She screamed, thrashing wildly as the female officer attempted to secure the handcuffs.
"Get off me! Do you know who I am?!" Vanessa shrieked, kicking her expensive heels against the boardroom table. "Daniel, call them off! You can't do this to me!"
Daniel watched her struggle, his expression carved from stone.
"You did this to yourself, Vanessa," Daniel said coldly. "You brought violence into my house. You touched my daughter. You will never see the outside of a prison cell again."
The officers finally managed to secure her wrists, dragging the screaming, cursing woman out of the glass boardroom. Julian followed, weeping openly, his career and his life entirely destroyed.
The heavy doors closed, leaving the terrified board of directors staring at their CEO.
Daniel didn't yell. He walked calmly to the head of the table, pulling out his chair and sitting down. He folded his hands in front of him.
"The motion of no confidence has been withdrawn," Daniel stated, looking around the room. "Julian Vance’s shares are hereby seized pending the federal investigation. Marcus, you will assume the role of acting legal counsel until a replacement is found."
"Yes, Mr. Bennett," Marcus nodded, a faint, victorious smile touching his lips.
"If anyone else at this table had prior knowledge of this coup," Daniel warned, his dark eyes sweeping the executives, "I suggest you resign before the end of the day. Because if I find out you were involved, I won't just fire you. I will ruin you."
Nobody spoke. Nobody breathed. The king had reclaimed his throne, and his authority was absolute.
Daniel stood up, adjusting his blazer.

"Meeting adjourned," he said.
He walked out of the boardroom, leaving the corporate world behind. He had secured the empire, but there was only one thing he actually cared about. He needed to see his daughter.
