Chapter 15 - The Ultimatum

Damian’s eyes snapped open. He didn't look drugged anymore. He looked sharp, alert, and terrifyingly calm.
"My house, Vivian," Damian corrected softly.
Vivian laughed, turning back to him, waving the signed documents in the air. "Not anymore, Damian. I hold the power of attorney. I control the assets. I decide where you sleep, what you eat, and who you see. And I say you are leaving."
Maya stepped forward from the corner of the room. "He is not going anywhere."
Vivian glared at her. "I told you to pack your bags, you stupid little rat. Security will throw you out with the trash."
"I wouldn't be so sure about those signatures, Silas," Damian said, ignoring Vivian entirely and locking eyes with his cousin.
Silas frowned, looking down at the papers in his hand. He stared at the jagged, messy signatures on the dotted lines.
"What did you do?" Silas demanded, his voice laced with sudden panic.
"I signed 'Mickey Mouse,'" Damian said, a dark, wicked smirk crossing his face.
Silas’s face went stark white. He looked closer at the documents. It was true. The signatures were completely invalid gibberish.
"You son of a bitch," Silas snarled, dropping the papers. "It doesn't matter! The inner circle is arriving in an hour. We'll tell them you’ve lost your mind. We'll take the empire by force if we have to."
"You are welcome to try," Damian replied smoothly, resting his hands on his chest.
"You’re a cripple!" Vivian shrieked, her perfect composure shattering into unhinged rage. "You can't even stand up to defend yourself! You’re nothing but a broken man in a bed! We run this city now!"
"Then go to the grand hall and claim your throne, Vivian," Damian challenged softly. "Go greet the inner circle. Let’s see who they bow to."
Silas grabbed Vivian’s arm, pulling her toward the door. "Leave him. We'll deal with him after we secure the capos."
The heavy doors slammed shut, leaving Damian and Maya alone in the room.

Damian slowly threw the wool blanket off his legs. He looked at Maya, his dark eyes burning with fierce determination.
"Get my suit, Maya," Damian ordered. "It’s time to go to work."
