Chapter 8: The Shadow of the Past
Even with the board arrested, the shadows of the past still lingered.
Arya received an anonymous note at the foundation the following morning.
It was a simple, handwritten message on a piece of cream-colored stationery.
The war isn't over just because you won the first battle.
Arya felt a shiver run down her spine.
She immediately took the note to Dante.
He read it, his jaw tightening into a hard, rigid line.
“This isn't Sterling,” he said, his voice low.
“Then who is it?” Arya asked, her heart racing.
“My brother,” Dante revealed.
Arya stared at him.
“You have a brother?” she asked.
“He’s been working with Sterling’s foreign contacts,” Dante said.
“He wants the control I just gave you,” he explained.
“He thinks you’re weak,” he added.
“He thinks he can take the foundation from you,” he warned.
Arya stood up, her posture straight and defiant.
“Let him come,” she said.
“I’ve learned how to handle people who underestimate me,” she declared.
