Chapter 19

A year passed. The scandal of the Crystal Pavilion gala had slowly faded from the relentless news cycle, but the permanent changes it brought to the city's hierarchy remained.
Elena and Alexander Sterling continued to expand their massive empire, but with a new, highly publicized focus on workers' rights and fair labor practices within the hospitality industry. Elena had launched a massive foundation dedicated to providing legal protection and financial aid for service workers who faced abuse from wealthy clients.
Cassandra Vance was still working at the diner. The grueling physical labor and the constant stress of poverty had aged her a decade. Her shimmering blonde hair was dull and tied back in a messy bun, and the spark of arrogant superiority in her eyes had been completely extinguished.
It was a rainy Friday night. Cassandra was wiping down the sticky laminate counter when she glanced up at the small, static-filled television mounted in the corner of the diner.
The screen showed a live broadcast of a massive, glittering charity event. It was the annual Sterling Foundation Gala, hosted at the newly renovated Crystal Pavilion.
Cassandra stopped wiping the counter, the dirty rag trembling in her scarred hands. She watched the screen as the camera panned over the opulent ballroom, capturing the sparkling chandeliers and the elegant guests. It was the exact room where her life had ended.

The camera focused on the center stage. Elena Sterling stepped up to the podium, looking absolutely breathtaking in a sleek, powerful black evening gown. Alexander stood proudly by her side, his protective presence as commanding as ever.
"We built this foundation because respect is not a luxury reserved for the wealthy," Elena spoke into the microphone, her voice confident and inspiring. "Every person serving you tonight deserves your kindness, your gratitude, and your absolute respect. Because class is not defined by the clothes you wear, but by how you treat those who have less than you."
