Chapter 18: The Aftermath & Divorce
Chapter 18: The Aftermath & Divorce
The legal criminal battle was over, but the final cleanup of my life was just beginning. I returned to the Devon
mansion one last time, accompanied by a moving crew and a team of federal executors. The property was being
prepared for public auction to repay the victims of Margaret’s Ponzi scheme and to settle my massive civil lawsuit
against their remaining personal estate.
I sat at the heavy mahogany desk where Daniel used to manage his fake accounts, signing the final decree of
absolute divorce. The paperwork stripped him of every single asset, every family heirloom, and every penny he had
left. Under the state’s criminal forfeiture laws, he was leaving marriage with nothing but his prison uniform.
Victoria Sterling had reached a separate plea deal, losing her wealth management license and receiving a five-
year suspended sentence to raise her child in a state-monitored facility, her reputation entirely ruined in high
society.
As I walked out of the empty house, carrying only my personal files and my father’s old silver watch, I felt a
strange, profound sense of lightness. The physical scars on my chest had faded into faint, silvery lines—a
permanent reminder of my survival, but no longer a source of pain.
I looked back at the large iron gates of the Devon estate as the workers hammered a massive 'SEIZED BY

THE STATE' sign onto the stone pillars. They thought they could bury me in the dark. Instead, they had handed me
the tools to build an entirely new life from their ashes.
