Chapter 15: Daniel's Betrayal
Chapter 15: Daniel's Betrayal
The prosecution called its star witness on the third day: Daniel Devon. Walking out in his standard prison jumpsuit,
his hair messy and his spirit completely broken, he looked like a ghost of the wealthy, confident husband I had
married.
He refused to look at his mother as he took the stand, keeping his eyes focused entirely on the floor.

to normal. She told me Elena didn't belong in our world anyway."
A loud gasp rippled through the gallery. Margaret suddenly surged forward from her seat, her public defender
unable to hold her back. "You cowardly little worm!" she shrieked at her son, her voice cracking with insane rage.
"I did everything for you! I built that empire for you! How dare you betray your own blood?!"
"Order! Order in the court!" the judge shouted, slamming his gavel repeatedly. "The defendant will remain
seated or she will be removed from the courtroom!"

I stood perfectly still at the podium, watching the family tear itself apart in front of the entire world. The
illusion of their "superior breeding" was completely
