Chapter 15

The rain had stopped by the time the black SUV pulled up to Elaine Parker’s abandoned townhouse in a quiet, upscale neighborhood. Marcus told Khloe to stay in the vehicle with the security detail while he retrieved the key. He didn't want to take any chances if Julian had the property watched.
Marcus walked briskly up the steps to the front porch. It was covered in a layer of dust and neglected autumn leaves. In the corner sat a large, decorative ceramic pot containing a dead, artificial ficus tree.
He gripped the base of the artificial trunk and pulled. With a sharp crack, the top half of the fake soil separated, revealing a small, hollow compartment underneath. Inside, resting in a plastic zip-lock bag, was a silver safety deposit box key.
Marcus pocketed the key and immediately returned to the SUV.
"I have it," Marcus told Khloe, his voice tight with adrenaline. "Take us to First City Bank."
An hour later, Marcus walked into the bank’s secure vault room alongside the branch manager. He slid the silver key into box 402. Inside lay a single, black encrypted USB drive.
When they returned to the Thorne Estate, Marcus took the drive straight to his secure study and plugged it into an offline laptop. Khloe stood behind him, resting her hands on his tense shoulders.
The drive was password protected, but Elaine had provided the password during the prison visit. Marcus typed it in, and the screen flooded with hundreds of documents, offshore bank transfer receipts, and intercepted emails.
"Look at this," Marcus said, clicking on a specific email chain. "These are messages sent between an anonymous encrypted account and Isabella Rossi’s father. The anonymous account is authorizing wire transfers of three million dollars to fund the smear campaign against me."
"How do we prove the anonymous account belongs to Julian?" Khloe asked, leaning in closer to the screen.
"Elaine pulled the IP logs," Marcus pointed to a separate spreadsheet. "The IP address for the anonymous account traces directly back to the private router in Julian Vance’s penthouse suite. It’s a direct match."

Khloe let out a breath she didn't know she was holding. "He paid them to destroy our family."
"And now," Marcus said, closing the laptop and pulling the USB drive out, "I am going to use this to destroy his."
