Chapter 14

Khloe felt a cold chill run down her spine at Elaine’s words, but she maintained her absolute composure. She couldn't let Elaine see how deeply that revelation rattled her.
"Julian funded Isabella?" Khloe asked, keeping her voice low and even.
Elaine nodded, a bitter, vindictive smile returning to her face. "Isabella had the malice, but she didn't have the capital to launch that massive sabotage campaign against Marcus. Julian funneled company money into offshore accounts to fund her operation. He wanted Isabella to destroy Marcus's personal life so that Marcus would step down, leaving the CEO chair wide open for him."
"And you knew this?" Khloe asked, disgusted.
"I found the digital paper trail by accident while auditing the executive communications server," Elaine admitted. "I saved the files onto an encrypted hard drive before Marcus fired me. Julian knows I have it. He promised me a legal defense fund if I keep my mouth shut and testify that Marcus was the one embezzling."
"If Julian gets control of the company, he will destroy that evidence," Khloe warned. "Give me the hard drive, Elaine. Let us take Julian down, and you get your minimum-security transfer."
Elaine weighed her options. She hated the Thornes, but she knew Julian Vance was a snake who would never honor his end of a bargain.
"It's not here, obviously," Elaine said, leaning back. "It’s in a safety deposit box at the First City Bank downtown. Box number 402. The key is hidden inside the hollowed-out base of the fake potted plant on the porch of my old townhouse. The lease doesn't expire until next month, so the plant should still be there."
"I will have my lawyers draft the transfer petition tomorrow," Khloe promised, standing up.
"Don't cross me, Khloe," Elaine warned, her eyes narrowing. "Or I will give Julian exactly what he wants."
"I keep my promises," Khloe said coldly, turning and walking out of the sterile room.

When Khloe got back to the SUV, she relayed the entire conversation to Marcus. His knuckles turned white as he gripped the steering wheel. The realization that Julian had actively funded the woman who nearly killed Khloe and Maya pushed Marcus into a state of lethal, calculated rage.
"We are going to Elaine's townhouse right now," Marcus ordered the driver. "Julian is a dead man walking."
