Chapter 8
Chapter 8: The Trap Springs Shut
Renata shrieked like an animal backed into a corner. She lunged across the desk, desperately trying to snatch Andrés's phone to destroy the evidence.
But right at that moment, the side door of the clinic connecting to the hallway burst open.
Two undercover detectives, wearing plain clothes and belonging to the city police's specialized Elder Abuse and Domestic Violence Unit—whom Andrés had tipped off beforehand—stepped swiftly into the room. They grabbed Renata's arms and twisted them behind her back.
"Renata Robles, you are under arrest. You have the right to remain silent..."
The lead detective barked out her Miranda rights.
Renata thrashed wildly in despair, her carefully applied makeup now a ruined mess of tears and mascara.
"This is a trap! A dirty setup! You are framing me! Andrés, how could you do this to me?"
Doña Teresa slowly stood up, smoothing the wrinkles from her suit jacket. She walked closely to her daughter-in-law, looking straight into her eyes. Her voice was calm but held the weight of a thousand pounds:
"No, Renata. The real trap was the lock you installed with your own hands—the cruel lock that could only be opened from the outside. You locked yourself into the trap of your own greed and wickedness."
Renata turned to glare at Andrés, her eyes burning with absolute, unfiltered hatred.
"How could you do this to me? You knew everything, yet last night you still shared my bed, drank wine, and smiled at me? You hypocrite!"
Andrés looked straight back at her without a single trace of remorse or pity.
"I wasn't acting, Renata. I was executing the most important mission of my life: protecting the most critical witness. And that witness is my mother."
That same morning, at a busy notary office in downtown Guadalajara, Mauricio Salcedo was also slapped with handcuffs. The police raided the office just as he was eagerly holding another forged real estate contract, preparing to finalize the theft of the property.

Dr. Jimena Aranda, after witnessing the entire ordeal and completing her assessment, officially signed her medical conclusion: Doña Teresa was in perfect physical and mental health, possessing full legal capacity, and suffered from no psychiatric disorders whatsoever. Furthermore, the doctor issued a referral recommending a short-term psychological counseling program to treat the trauma caused by the prolonged abuse and captivity.
Later that afternoon, a family court judge signed an emergency order: immediately freezing all financial transactions related to Renata and Mauricio's bank accounts; voiding all documents, contracts, and power of attorney forms signed under duress or deception; and issuing a strict protective restraining order to keep Doña Teresa safe.
