Chapter 13 - The Final Play|

My hands shook as I opened my mobile banking app. The screen loaded, and the number staring back at me made my stomach drop.
$0.00.
But that wasn't the terrifying part. Daniel had already drained the joint accounts weeks ago. The terrifying part was the new line of credit opened in my name—a massive $250,000 personal loan, fully withdrawn just hours ago.
He hadn’t just run; he had framed me for financial fraud on his way out.
I showed the text to Carter, who had been standing guard outside the hotel room. He cursed under his breath. “He’s using your identity to fund his escape. He knows you won't be able to pay it back, leaving you destitute even if you win full custody.”
“How is he doing this?” I panicked.
“He has your social security number, all your passwords. He’s a smart man, Sarah.”
“Smart, but arrogant,” I murmured, a sudden thought striking me. “Carter, he didn’t just open this loan online. The bank requires dual authentication for that amount. He would need access to my primary cell phone.”
Carter frowned. “Your primary phone is in evidence at the police station.”
“No, it’s not,” I said, remembering the chaotic morning of the courtroom collapse. “I left it in my purse. And my purse was in Daniel’s car because we drove to the courthouse together.”
Carter’s eyes widened. “We ping the phone.”
Within ten minutes, Carter’s tech team was tracking the signal from my old iPhone. It wasn’t moving toward the airport or the border. It was stationary.
“He’s at the docks,” Carter said, looking at the blinking red dot on the map. “Pier 44. He’s not flying out; he’s taking a private boat.”
I stood up, pulling on my jacket. “Let’s go.”

“You’re staying here with Lily,” Carter ordered.
“He ruined seven years of my life,” I said, my voice cold and unyielding. “I want to be there when you put the cuffs on him.”
