Chapter 13 - The Meeting of Bosses

|
The next forty-eight hours were a whirlwind of high-stakes, ruthless negotiations.
Robert Vance arrived at the estate assuming he was attending a post-gala business meeting. He was immediately disarmed, dragged into the study, and presented with Isabella's journal and the confession of his own daughter. Faced with the undeniable threat of a bullet to the head, Vance signed over his entire empire to Elena and Leo.
The Vance family was banished from Chicago by nightfall, allowed to leave with nothing but their lives.
But the crisis was far from over.
Adrian called an emergency meeting in the grand dining room. He didn't just invite his own capos. He invited the heads of the Falcone family.
Elena sat quietly at the massive mahogany table, wearing a tailored black suit Adrian had ordered for her. Leo sat beside her, looking extremely nervous but trying to remain stoic.
The heavy double doors opened, and Dominic Falcone walked in. He was a terrifying, elderly man with a scarred face and a cane with a silver wolf's head. He was accompanied by six heavily armed men.
"Adrian," Dominic rasped, taking a seat at the opposite end of the table. "You called this truce. It better be important."
Adrian stood up at the head of the table. "It is, Dominic. We have a shared interest."
Dominic scoffed, resting his hands on his cane. "We share nothing, Moretti. Your father killed my son, Marcus. We are enemies until the day I die."
"My father killed your son," Adrian agreed calmly. "But before he died, Marcus left something behind."
Adrian gestured to Elena and Leo.
"Dominic," Adrian said, his voice ringing clear through the tense room. "Meet your grandchildren."
Dominic Falcone froze. The hardened, ruthless mob boss stared at Elena, and then at Leo. His eyes widened, searching their faces for the familiar traits of the son he had mourned for nearly three decades. He saw Marcus's jawline in Leo. He saw his own dark, piercing eyes in Elena.
The old man’s hands began to tremble on his silver cane.
"Isabella's children," Dominic whispered, his voice cracking with sudden, overwhelming emotion.
"Yes," Adrian confirmed. "They have lived in poverty while our families fought a war over nothing. They are Moretti blood, and they are Falcone blood. They are the bridge between us."
Dominic slowly stood up. He didn't look at his armed guards. He didn't look at Adrian. He walked slowly down the length of the long table, stopping in front of Elena.
He reached out a shaking hand, hesitating before gently touching her cheek.

"You have his eyes," the old mob boss wept, tears finally spilling down his scarred face.
Elena didn't pull away. For the first time in her life, she wasn't just a maid struggling to survive. She was the heir to two empires.
