Chapter 10 - The Red Dress

|
On the night of the gala, the Perry estate was transformed into a glittering fortress of wealth and power. Politicians, judges, and underworld bosses mingled under crystal chandeliers, sipping vintage champagne and pretending they didn't despise one another.
Nevaeh stood in her private suite, staring at her reflection in the full-length mirror.
Leandro had delivered a box to her room that afternoon. Inside was a custom-tailored, deep crimson silk gown. It was a masterpiece. The fabric draped flawlessly over her generous curves, cinching at her waist and cascading to the floor. The neckline was elegant but daring, highlighting her lush figure without apology.
She looked absolutely breathtaking. She looked like a queen.
There was a soft knock at the door.
Nevaeh opened it to find Leandro standing in the hallway. He wore a bespoke black tuxedo, looking incredibly handsome and terrifyingly lethal. When his eyes landed on her in the red dress, he stopped breathing.
The ruthless mafia boss was completely rendered speechless.
He looked at her with a raw, consuming hunger that made Nevaeh’s pulse race wildly in her throat.
“You are magnificent,” Leandro finally whispered, stepping into the room.
He reached into his pocket and pulled out a velvet box. He opened it, revealing a stunning, heavy diamond collar necklace.
“Leandro, I can't accept that,” Nevaeh breathed, stepping back. “It’s too much.”
“Turn around,” he commanded softly.
She obeyed, shivering as his warm fingers brushed against the bare skin of her neck, fastening the cold diamonds securely.
“You accept it because you earned it,” Leandro murmured, his lips brushing dangerously close to her ear. “Tonight, you are not an assistant. You are my partner.”
He offered her his arm.

Nevaeh took a deep breath, resting her hand on his bicep. Together, they walked down the grand marble staircase and stepped into the blinding light of the ballroom.
The entire room went dead silent.
