Chapter 10

The federal injunction hit Apex Zenith like a sledgehammer. By noon the following day, the logistics company’s financial arteries were completely severed. Emily and Marcus sat in an unmarked black SUV parked across the street from the Apex Zenith corporate building, watching the chaotic fallout alongside two FBI agents.
"Their stock just tanked twelve percent in thirty minutes," Marcus noted, looking at his tablet. "They are panicking."
"Panic makes people sloppy," Emily observed, her eyes fixed on the front doors of the glass-fronted building.
Suddenly, a tall, aggressively tailored man stormed out of the building, flanked by two private security guards. He was holding a cell phone to his ear, his face bright red with fury.
"That's Elias Thorne, the CEO of Apex," the lead FBI agent, a man named Carter, said from the front seat. "He looks like he's about to murder someone."
"He's calling his offshore partners to explain why the money stopped flowing," Emily diagnosed coldly. "Agent Carter, do you have the warrant for the server room?"
"The judge signed it ten minutes ago," Carter smiled, holding up a manila envelope. "We are going in."
Emily stepped out of the SUV, adjusting her suit jacket. She walked alongside the FBI agents as they approached the frantic CEO.
"Elias Thorne!" Carter barked, flashing his badge. "FBI. We have a federal warrant to seize all digital assets and servers within this facility."
Elias stopped dead in his tracks, his arrogant sneer faltering for a fraction of a second before he regained his composure.
"This is an illegal overreach!" Elias shouted. "My lawyers will have this injunction lifted by sunset! You are destroying a legitimate business!"
Emily stepped forward, looking Elias directly in the eyes with absolute, unshakeable authority.

"A legitimate business does not route local payroll through a high-frequency trading server in the Caymans, Mr. Thorne," Emily said smoothly. "Your skim is over. Now, step aside, or you will be arrested for obstructing a federal audit."
Elias glared at her, completely disarmed by her clinical precision. He stepped aside, and Emily walked into the building to dismantle his empire.
