Chapter 14 - The Rebellion

Sebastian pushed his wheelchair backward, breaking her touch.
“Session is over,” he snapped, his voice harsh.
Clare blinked, stunned. “What? Sebastian, you just fired a major muscle group! This is a massive breakthrough!”
“I said it’s over, Clare! Get out!” he roared, spinning the chair toward the door.
Clare stood up, her blood boiling. She wasn't one of his sycophants. She wasn't going to cower. She marched right up to his chair, grabbed the handles, and forced him to stop.
“Don’t you dare run away from this!” she yelled, leaning over him.
Sebastian glared at her, his chest heaving. “Don't push me, Clare.”
“I will push you! Because I know exactly what you’re doing!” she fired back. “You’re terrified. Because as long as you were permanently paralyzed, you didn't have to hope! Hope is painful. Hope means you might fail again. It’s easier to be the angry mob boss in a chair than a man who has to learn to walk and might fall down.”
The gym was dead silent. Sebastian stared at her, his eyes blazing with fury. No one had spoken to him like that in his entire life. No one had ever stripped away his armor and exposed his deepest fear so ruthlessly.
“You think you know me?” he growled.

“I know you’re a coward when it comes to your own heart,” Clare whispered, tears of frustration spilling over. “And I won't let you give up.”
She turned and walked out of the gym, leaving him alone with his paralyzed legs and the echoes of her truth. Sebastian looked down at his right thigh. Slowly, he placed his hand over the muscle, his jaw clenched in absolute determination.
