Chapter 1: The Weight of Tears

The morning sun cast a brilliant, cinematic glow over the sprawling estate of Crestview Villa, yet a quiet sorrow lingered in the shadows of the grand patio. Elena, heavily pregnant and dressed in a flowing white maternity gown, sat on the edge of a marble bench. She quickly wiped a stray tear from her cheek, trying to hide the emotional exhaustion of dealing with her husband’s fiercely critical extended family.

She thought she had composed herself, but a small hand gently tugged at her dress.

The perspective shifted to a tight close-up of little Leo, her five-year-old son. He paused, turning his head back to look at her. His lower lip quivered slightly, and heavy tears welled up in his innocent eyes, mirroring his mother’s hidden pain.

"Mom, don't cry," Leo whispered, his voice cracking with a raw, heartbreaking sincerity. "I love you."

Elena’s breath hitched. She offered him a tender, reassuring smile, gently brushing the hair from his forehead.

"I love you too, my sweet boy. Mommy is just fine," she murmured softly, her voice steadying. "Go play by the garden ferns. I'm just going to look at the water for a moment."

As Leo scampered off into the lush greenery, Elena slowly stood and walked toward the edge of the infinity pool. The sparkling water mirrored the cloudless sky, surrounded by imported palm trees and rows of expensive, sun-drenched daybeds. It was supposed to be a picture of absolute perfection, but the tranquility was about to be shattered.
