Chapter 18 - The Heir

|

The sterile delivery room was suddenly filled with a sharp, piercing cry.

Arthur stopped breathing. He watched in absolute awe as the doctor gently cleared the airway of a tiny, red, screaming infant.

“It’s a boy,” Dr. Evans announced, a relieved smile breaking across his face.

Chloe collapsed back onto the pillows, entirely exhausted but crying with pure, unadulterated joy.

The nurses quickly cleaned the baby, wrapping him tightly in a soft white blanket. They brought the small bundle over to Arthur.

The ruthless mafia boss, a man whose hands had orchestrated the downfall of empires and ended lives without hesitation, trembled violently as he reached out to take his son.

He cradled the tiny boy against his chest. The contrast was staggering—the massive, blood-stained king holding absolute, fragile innocence. Arthur stared down at the baby’s face, tracing a gentle finger over a tiny, perfect cheek. The baby stopped crying, blinking his dark eyes open to look at his father.

“He’s beautiful,” Arthur whispered, tears falling freely onto the pristine white blanket.

He carefully leaned over the bed, bringing the baby down so Chloe could see. Chloe smiled weakly, reaching out to brush the baby’s dark hair.

“We did it,” Chloe murmured, her eyes heavy with exhaustion. “He’s safe.”

“He is the heir to everything I have,” Arthur vowed, pressing a kiss to Chloe’s lips. “And I will spend the rest of my life ensuring he never has to see the violence that brought him into this world.”

Arthur held his family, feeling a profound, overwhelming sense of completeness. The war outside the clinic doors didn't matter. The politics of the five families didn't matter. In that small hospital room, Arthur Romano had finally found his true empire.
