Chapter 4 - The Bloodline Test

While Vance coordinated the intelligence gathering, Damon paced the length of the study.

Zuri had returned to sitting on the plush sofa, happily kicking her legs, entirely oblivious to the tension that was suffocating her mother. She picked up a half-empty glass of water from the coffee table and took a sip.

Damon stopped pacing. He stared at the glass in the toddler’s hand.

A dark, impossible theory was beginning to form in the back of his mind. A theory so insane, so deeply agonizing, that he was afraid to entertain it. Elena had died three years ago. Zuri was exactly three years old.

“Vance,” Damon said quietly, walking over to the door and speaking directly to his security chief.

“Sir?”

“When the child is finished with that glass, take it,” Damon ordered in a hushed whisper. “Bring it directly to Dr. Aris at the private clinic. I want a full DNA panel run against my profile on file. Expedited. I want the results by midnight.”

Vance’s eyes widened slightly in shock, but he quickly masked it with absolute professionalism. “Understood, Boss.”

Damon turned back to the room. Naomi was holding her daughter tightly again, whispering to her in Spanish.

“My brother, Silas, is arriving at the estate this evening for a board meeting,” Damon announced, walking back to his desk. “You and Zuri will remain in the master wing guest suite until further notice. You will not interact with the rest of the staff. And you will certainly not interact with Silas.”

“You are keeping us as prisoners,” Naomi accused, her voice trembling with indignation.

“I am keeping you alive,” Damon corrected coldly. “If my brother is the man your daughter claims the ‘sad lady’ warned her about, and he finds out she knows his secrets, he will not hesitate to silence both of you.”

Naomi’s breath hitched. She looked at Zuri, her maternal instincts warring with her fear of the billionaire.

“I will go to the guest suite,” Naomi finally conceded. “But if you hurt her...”

“I would burn this entire city to ash before I let anyone harm a child in my home,” Damon vowed, his gray eyes flashing with a terrifying, protective fire. “Now go. Before Silas arrives.”
