Chapter 10 - The Vow of Vengeance

The underground warehouse was damp and smelled of rust.
Dr. Evans, the corrupt physician who had facilitated Elena’s death, was tied securely to a heavy metal chair in the center of the room. He was sweating profusely, terrified by the heavily armed guards standing in the shadows.
The heavy steel doors groaned open.
Damon walked in, removing his tailored suit jacket and rolling up his sleeves. He didn't look angry; he looked methodically focused.
“Damon, please!” Dr. Evans begged, straining against the zip-ties. “I didn't have a choice! Silas threatened my family! He said if I didn't administer the neurotoxin, he would kill my children!”
“And yet, you were perfectly willing to murder mine,” Damon noted quietly, stopping a few feet from the doctor.
“I didn't know about the baby until she came in! And I didn't kill the child, the nurse took her!”
“You let my wife die believing I ordered her execution,” Damon said, his voice dropping to a terrifying whisper. “You watched the woman I loved bleed to death on your table, and you took my brother’s money to write a fake autopsy report.”
Damon didn't yell. He picked up a heavy, steel wrench from a nearby workbench.
“I need a full, written, and recorded confession,” Damon stated, stepping closer. “Detailing exactly how much Silas paid you, the exact poison used, and the forged documents.”
“I’ll give you everything!” Evans cried. “Just let me live!”
“You don't get to live, Doctor,” Damon said smoothly. “But if you give me the confession, I will ensure your children are protected from the fallout. If you refuse, I will let Vance practice his interrogation techniques until you beg for death.”
Evans sobbed, breaking completely. “I’ll record it. I’ll tell you everything.”
An hour later, Damon walked out of the warehouse, wiping a small speck of blood from his cuff. He had the recording. He had the banking records that tied Silas to the offshore accounts used to pay the doctor.
The trap was fully set.
“Vance,” Damon said as he climbed into the back of the armored SUV. “Silas is hosting the annual Ashford Foundation Gala tomorrow night at the Plaza. It’s his favorite event to show off his power.”
