Chapter 20 - The Unopened Box

That evening, after the grand opening party ended and the last guests walked out into the cool New York night, I stayed behind in my office upstairs to review the opening day sales figures.
We had broken every single record projected by Luxe Global.
My assistant walked into the office carrying a small, ribbon-tied box that had arrived via courier earlier that afternoon.
“This came for you, Kate,” she said, setting it on my desk. “No return address. Just a note.”
I picked up the small cream-colored card resting on top of the box.
The handwriting was familiar, but the tone was entirely different from the past.

Inside, resting on black velvet, was a vintage, silver drafting compass from the 1920s—a tool used by architects and designers to draw precise, unbroken circles.
I picked up the heavy silver tool, feeling its weight in my hand, admiring the intricate craftsmanship.
Outside my window, the rain began to fall softly over the bustling streets of Manhattan.

I placed the drafting compass on the center of my desk, beside my new sketchbook, opened the first blank page, and picked up my pencil.
The story was far from over. In fact, the lines were just beginning to be drawn.
