Chapter 12 - The Fall of the House|

By sunrise the following morning, the Whitmore family empire had ceased to exist.

Federal agents descended upon the Whitmore mansion in upstate New York, executing arrest warrants for Victoria and Bianca Whitmore for tax evasion, wire fraud, and grand larceny.

News cameras captured the exact moment Victoria was led out of her grand front doors in handcuffs, her expensive makeup ruined by tears, while Bianca sobbed hysterically beside a police cruiser.

Meanwhile, at the Aurelia Grand, the atmosphere in the penthouse was peaceful and quiet.

Ava sat on the sunny terrace, sipping warm tea, watching the morning fog lift off the Hudson River.

The heavy weight she had carried for ten long years—the guilt, the feeling of being an outsider in her own family—was entirely gone.

Niko stepped out onto the terrace, wearing a comfortable wool sweater, holding a folder of legal documents.

“The judge approved the transfer an hour ago,” Niko said softly, sitting across from her. “The Monroe Design House is officially re-registered under your name.”

Ava looked up at him, a radiant, beautiful smile spreading across her face. “Really?”

“Really,” Niko confirmed, handing her the official state certificate. “The mansion, the patents, the original archives... everything your mother built belongs to you now.”

Ava touched the raised seal on the official paper, a tear of pure joy slipping down her cheek. “I don't even know how to thank you, Niko. You gave me my life back.”

Niko reached across the small table, gently wiping the tear from her cheek with his thumb.

“You gave yourself your life back, Ava,” Niko said softly. “I just held the coat.”

Ava looked into his dark, intense eyes, feeling a sudden, warm fluttering in her chest that had nothing to do with revenge, and everything to do with the man sitting before her.
