Chapter 14 - The Boardroom Coup

|

At precisely 12:15 PM, the executive boardroom on the top floor of the Bennett Tower in downtown Chicago was a scene of absolute panic.

Richard Bennett was sweating profusely, standing at the head of the massive mahogany table, shouting at twelve frantic board members.

“We have to sell the Michigan Avenue properties to the Romanov group!” Richard yelled, slamming his fist on the table. “It’s a fire sale, but it’s the only way to generate enough liquid cash to pay off our creditors before the feds step in!”

“You’re selling our crown jewels for a tenth of their value!” a board member argued.

Before Richard could respond, the heavy glass doors of the boardroom were violently pushed open.

Four massive men in tailored suits stepped inside, fanning out and blocking the exits. The room fell dead silent.

Then, Adrien Moretti walked in.

The board members collectively gasped. Richard’s face turned the color of ash. “Adrien... what is the meaning of this? This is a closed corporate meeting!”

Adrien ignored him, stepping aside to make way for the person walking behind him.

Norah entered the room. She wasn't wearing a shapeless cardigan or a stained lab apron. She was wearing a stunning, tailored crimson power suit that hugged every single one of her curves perfectly. She looked wealthy, powerful, and absolutely lethal.

“Nora?” Richard choked out, completely bewildered. “What are you doing here? Get out!”

Vanessa, who had been sitting in the corner sulking in a pair of designer sunglasses, ripped them off her face and stood up. “Are you insane? You brought the man who ruined us into our building? Security!”

None of the corporate security guards moved. Adrien’s men had already relieved them of their duties in the lobby.

Norah ignored her sister. She walked directly to the head of the table, stopping right next to her father. She placed a thick leather folder on the mahogany wood and slid it open.

“I’m not here to ruin the company, Richard,” Norah said, her voice echoing coldly in the silent room. “I’m here to take it back.”
