Chapter 26

Armed with the knowledge that Elias Thorne was acting as a proxy for Richard Blackwood’s criminal syndicate, our defensive posture instantly shifted to a highly aggressive offense. Maya did not just want to win the legal battle; she wanted to permanently dismantle the financial infrastructure that allowed men like Elias to operate.
We gathered in the archive room again. The air was thick with purpose. Maya, Noah, and Sarah, our lead litigator, were pouring over the digital manifests we had secured from the federal courts years ago.
"If Richard transferred his shadow ledgers to Geneva, he had to use a clearinghouse," Sarah explained, tapping a complex financial diagram on the whiteboard. "He couldn't just wire millions of dollars of extorted money directly. He would have used a shell corporation tied to Julian's original life-insurance fraud."
"Look for the dates immediately following the grand jury subpoenas," Maya directed, her eyes flying across the spreadsheets on her laptop. "Richard knew the walls were closing in. He would have moved the assets in a panic."
We searched for three grueling hours. The digital paper trail was intentionally convoluted, buried under layers of corporate jargon and fake holding companies.
Finally, I noticed a discrepancy in a physical ledger book we had pulled from the original Vance estate evidence boxes. It was a mundane expense log from Julian's private office.
"Maya, look at this," I called out, pointing to a handwritten entry. "Three days after the subpoenas were issued, Julian authorized a massive payment for 'International Consulting Services' to a firm called Apex Zenith. But there is no invoice attached. Just a routing number."
Maya typed the routing number into her secure database. The screen loaded for a agonizing ten seconds before flashing a result.
"Apex Zenith is registered in Geneva," Maya said, a triumphant smile breaking across her face. "And the registered agent is Elias Thorne."

"We have them," Noah grinned, leaning back in his chair. "It wasn't a debt. It was a money-laundering transfer. Julian paid them to hide the money, and now Elias is using a forged contract to try and legitimize it as a loan."
"Sarah," Maya said, turning to her lawyer with absolute authority. "Draft the federal whistleblower complaint. We are tearing Elias Thorne to the ground."
