Chapter 19: Breaking the Seal
The fire department breached the mansion's main doors just as the metal shutters fully retracted.
Through the thick smoke, a team of firefighters in heavy gear descended into the basement. They found Clara and Michael guiding them from the main floor.
"Down here!" Lane shouted.
Paramedics rushed into the vault. They immediately took Emily and Hope, checking the baby's vitals. "The infant is unharmed. Her lungs are clear," a paramedic announced, to the overwhelming relief of Daniel and Emily.
Another medic attended to Daniel, tightly bandaging his side. "You're lucky, Mr. Hart. An inch to the left and it would have hit your kidney. You need a hospital, but you'll live."
Daniel nodded, refusing the stretcher. "I'm walking out of here."
Lane hauled Victoria to her feet. She was covered in soot, blood, and defeat. She didn't look at Daniel or Emily. She stared blankly ahead, the reality of her lost empire finally crushing her spirit.

As they walked her up the stairs and out through the grand foyer, the mansion was a chaotic scene of flashing lights, spraying water, and shouting voices.
