Chapter 10 - Shadows Over the Harbor

|

Rain had begun to fall over Long Island by the time Wesley returned to Warehouse 7.

The storm whipped the dark waters of the harbor into white-capped waves, slamming against the wooden pilings beneath the piers. Inside the cavernous structure, fifty of Wesley’s men stood in complete silence, surrounding a man tied to a wooden pillar.

Briggs was bloody and bruised, his breath ragged.

When the heavy doors rolled open and Wesley walked inside, flanked by Marco, a shudder ran through every man in the room.

Wesley walked slowly over to Briggs, stopping right in front of him.

“You sold out my sister,” Wesley said, his voice dropping to a terrifying register that carried easily over the sound of the rain against the metal roof.

“Wesley... please!” Briggs choked out, spitting blood onto the concrete. “They threatened my family! Don Valenti said he’d burn my house down if I didn't give Celeste the codes!”

“You lied to me,” Wesley said calmly. “You stole from an old man who worked thirty years on these docks. And then you helped a viper poison a girl who never harmed a soul in her life.”

Wesley didn't pull out a gun. He turned to Marco.

“The Valentis think they can take my harbor because I’ve been quiet lately,” Wesley said, looking around at his gathered men. “They think because I care for my sister, I have become weak.”

The enforcers shifted, their hands tightening on their weapons.

“Tonight, we remind New York who owns these docks,” Wesley commanded, his eyes flashing with lethal resolve. “Load the trucks. We’re visiting the Valenti territory.”
