Chapter 15 - The Decoy|

The industrial district was a sprawling maze of rusted shipping containers and dilapidated brick buildings. Fog rolled off the nearby docks, thickening the night air and reducing visibility to mere feet. I crouched behind a stack of wooden pallets, Marcus and my elite squad fanning out silently around me.

In the distance, the deafening roar of gunfire shattered the quiet. Viktor Volkov had begun his assault on the warehouse. Explosions lit up the fog with flashes of orange and red.

"Viktor took the bait," Marcus whispered through the comms piece in my ear. "He's drawing their heavy hitters to the main building."

"Good. Now we find the real prize," I replied, moving swiftly to the next cover.

Based on the intercepted blueprints, the Corsican leadership wasn't in the massive, obvious warehouse. They were operating out of an unassuming, abandoned harbormaster's office overlooking the docks. It offered a perfect vantage point to monitor the district.

We approached the office building. Two guards stood by the reinforced steel door, armed with suppressed submachine guns. They were disciplined, keeping their eyes on the shadows rather than the distant firefight.

I signaled to my men. With synchronized precision, two suppressed shots rang out, and the guards dropped silently to the wet concrete.

"Breach," I ordered.

Marcus slapped a small breaching charge onto the door's locking mechanism. We stacked up, the tension coiling in my muscles. The muffled thump of the explosive blew the door inward. We surged into the building, weapons raised.

The interior was gutted, replaced with high-tech servers, glowing monitors, and tactical maps. At the center of the room stood a man in a tailored suit, calmly sipping from a glass of whiskey as if he had been expecting us.

"Welcome, Sebastian," the man said, turning around with a cold smile. "I am Lucien. We have much to discuss."
