Chapter 15: The Trap is Sprung
Our triumph in Geneva was interrupted by a frantic text message from Henderson.
Clare, we have a situation. Matthew's appeal wasn't just a legal maneuver. He used a corrupt guard to smuggle a burner phone into Sing Sing. He’s been coordinating with Lauren Thorne’s old associates. They’ve liquidating a hidden, secondary offshore account we missed—worth about five million—and they’re trying to buy out a block of NexusCore’s historic debt to force a hostile restructuring.
I stared at the screen, my blood turning to ice. Even from behind bars, the parasite was trying to bury its teeth into my life.
Julian noticed my expression instantly. "What is it?"
I handed him the phone. He read the text, his gray eyes darkening until they looked like a winter storm.
"He thinks he's clever," Julian hissed, a dangerous, predatory smile spreading across his face. "He thinks he found a loophole. He doesn't realize that by attempting a hostile corporate action while serving a felony sentence, he just violated federal banking laws."
Julian pulled out his own phone, dialing a number he knew by heart.

"Get me the Director of the Southern District of New York," Julian said into the receiver, his voice cold enough to freeze water. "Tell him Julian Vance has a federal wire fraud and illegal asset liquidation case ready for indictment. And tell him we’re going to seize the asset before the sun comes up."
Julian looked at me, his hand finding mine again. "Let’s go home, Clare. It’s time to put this dog down for good."
