Chapter 9: The Settlement

Because Renata had bravely blown the whistle and provided irrefutable, heavily documented evidence to the authorities, she was entirely cleared of all charges. The prosecution treated her as a victim and a star witness, not an accomplice.

But Renata didn't stop there. With Valeria leading the charge, she aggressively pursued civil damages against the remnants of the Ibarra estate.

She legally reclaimed the entire inheritance her aunt had left her, with heavy interest. Furthermore, a judge awarded her a substantial portion of the unfrozen, legitimate assets as compensation for the severe identity theft, emotional distress, and defamation she had suffered.

She bought a beautiful, modest, light-filled apartment in the quiet, artsy neighborhood of Roma. She filled it with overflowing bookshelves, vibrant green plants, and the kind of deep, restorative peace that money alone can never buy.

She never heard from the Ibarra family again. They were too busy tearing each other apart in court, fighting over reduced sentences, to bother her.
