Chương 19 - The Iron Vault

The subterranean corridors beneath the Royal Lancaster were centuries old, constructed of thick Victorian brick and reinforced modern carbon steel.

The sounds of the firefight upstairs grew muffled, replaced by the deep, hollow echoes of their footsteps.

Elias, Saraphina, and Marco pushed through the heavy titanium door of Vault 404. Behind them, Elias slammed the hydraulic lever, sealing the bulkhead shut with a resounding hiss of locking pneumatics.

"That will hold Julian's remaining men for ten minutes," Marco panted, wiping blood from his cheek. "Boss, this place is completely off-grid. No cellular signal, no remote hacks."

The vault room was cavernous. In the center stood a colossal circular door of brushed steel, twenty feet in diameter, equipped with two biometric pedestals.

Above the door, engraved in tarnished brass, was the joint motto of the Kingston and Moretti dynasties:

*SANGUIS ET HONOR* — *Blood and Honor.*

"This is it," Saraphina said, approaching the left pedestal. The display screen illuminated with a faint blue light, revealing a palm scanner and an optical sensor. "Julian wasn't lying about this part. It requires both of us."

Elias stepped up to the right pedestal. He looked at Saraphina, his eyes reflecting the blue glow of the interface.

"Whatever is behind this door changes everything," Elias said quietly. "If my father and yours were partners, it means our entire war... every death between our families... was built on Julian's manipulations."

"I already know who I am, Elias," Saraphina said, reaching out to gently touch the back of his hand. "I’m not the scared nanny you threw against the wall. And you aren't the monster Julian tried to create. We finish this together."

Elias swallowed hard, his heart hammering against his ribs in a way it never did during a firefight. He nodded.

"On three," he said.

"One," she whispered.

"Two."

"Three."

Both of them pressed their right palms onto the scanning pads simultaneously.

*BIOMETRIC CONFIRMED: ELIAS KINGSTON.*

*BIOMETRIC CONFIRMED: SARAPHINA MORETTI.*

A deep, mechanical rumble echoed through the subterranean floor. The heavy steel locking pins—each the size of an artillery shell—retracted one by one. The massive circular vault door hissed as the vacuum seal broke, slowly swinging inward on grease-packed hinges.

A cold, sterile mist poured out from the dark interior.

Elias raised his weapon, tactical flashlight illuminating the vast chamber.

Rows of server banks lined the perimeter, their green lights blinking silently. But in the center of the vault stood something that neither of them expected.

Not pallets of bearer bonds. Not stacks of gold bullion.

There were two modern cryogenic stasis pods, humming with auxiliary power, frosted over with thick rime.

And inside the glass of the first pod lay the unmistakable, preserved silhouette of a woman.

Saraphina gasped, stumbling backward, her hand flying to her mouth. "Mama...?"
